Angel Biscuits

2 pkg. active dry yeast
1/4 C. warm water
2 C. warm buttermilk
5 C. flour
1/3 C. sugar
1 T. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
1 T. salt
1 C. shortening


Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir in buttermilk; set aside. In another bowl combine all the remaining ingredients except shortening. Then blend in shortening until coarse meal. Then stir in yeast. Turn onto a floured surface and roll out to 1/2 inch. Then cut with cutter. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 450 for 8 – 10 minutes. Yields: 2 1/2 dz.
