Caramel Dumplings

1 c. sugar
2 c. boiling water
1 T. butter

1 T. butter
pinch of salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 t. vanilla
1 c. flour
3 t. baking powder
1/2 c. milk

In heavy pan caramelize sugar, stirring constantly. As soon as sugar is light brown add boiling water. Keep stirring until sugar dissolves;
add butter. Make batter with rest of ingredients. Drop by tablespoon into boiling syrup. Batter will slide off spoon if spoon is dipped in syrup first.
After all of dumplings are in syrup allow to come to a boil then cover and lower heat for 12 minutes or until dumplings are done.
Serve warm with milk
