Soak 2 envelopes Knox gelatin in 1/2 c. cold water. Heat 4 cups whole milk to hot (not boiling). remove from heat and add gelatin.
Add:
2 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla
1 t. salt
Cool, then add:
3 c. cream
Chill for 5 hours before freezing. Makes 1 gallon
