Gingerbread Dessert Cake

1 /2 C. shortening
1 T. brown sugar
1 C. hot water
2 1/4 C. flour
1 t. ginger
3/4 t. salt
2 T sugar
1 egg
1 C. molasses
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
dash nutmeg


In a large bowl, cream the shortening and sugars. Add egg; mix well. Beat in water and molasses. Combine the remaining ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture. Pour into greased 9 x 9 pan. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
