1 c. oatmeal
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. margarine
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nutmeats
Topping:
6 Tbsp. margarine
1/3 c. milk
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coconut
Pour boiling water over oatmeal and let stand. Beat well, margarine, brown sugar, white sugar and eggs. Sift flour, soda and salt. Add flour mixture to sugar and shortening mixture; mix well. Add oatmeal and beat after each addition. Add vanilla and nuts, mix well. bake in 13 x 9 pan for 45 minutes at 325. Cool cake and prepare topping. Boil 1 minute at full boil; milk, margarine and brown sugar. Remove from heat; add vanilla and coconut. mix well and spread over cake.
