Strawberry Coffee Cake

8 oz. cream cheese
3/4 C. sugar
1/2 C. softened butter
1/4 C. milk
2 eggs, beaten
1 t. vanilla
2 C. flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
1 – 18oz. jar strawberry preserves
1/2 C packed brown sugar
1/2 C. chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350. Grease and flour 13 x 9 pan. Combine cream cheese, butter and sugar in mixing bowl. Beat until light and fluffy. Add milk, eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add to cream cheese mixture. Beat until smooth. Spread half the batter in pan. Spread preserves over batter. Add remaining batter in dollops over preserves. Sprinkle with walnuts and brown sugar. Bake for 40 minutes. Cut into squares.
