6 or more apples, peeled and sliced
2 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon
2 T. butter
2 eggs
1/2 c. lard
1 1/4 c. milk
3 c. flour
1 t. cream of tartar
3 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1 t. vanilla
Place a layer of apples in the bottom of a greased 13 x 9 pan. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the sugar plus the cinnamon over apples. Add butter in chunks over the apples. Mix the cake batter by creaming rest of sugar and lard, then add eggs and beat well. Add milk alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Pour over apples. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Serve warm with milk.
