Toffee Topped Bars

2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 c. all purpose flour
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1 t. vanilla
1 c. milk
1 egg
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. pecans
1/4 c. flaked coconut

In a large mixing bowl, mix together sugar and flour. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Remove 1 cup of mixture and set aside. To mixture in large bowl, add baking powder and salt. Using a fork, lightly beat in vanilla, milk and egg. Continue beating until a smooth batter forms. Pour batter in greased 13 x 9 pan. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top. Sprinkle chocolate chips, nuts and coconut on top. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Makes 24 bars
